RTCW - am I missing something here?

Is it just me, or is this "game" nothing more than a mod for Q3? I mean, I played the demo and it was pretty fun, but it's just like playing Q3. Am I missing something? And to think it costs upwards of $60....ridiculous.

Your thoughts?

The only thing they have in common is being FPSs, and being based on the same engine. If you think it is too expensive, don't play it.

Well, for one thing, unlike Quake III, it's got a full single-player game in addition to the multiplayer you tried in the demo.

And personally, I find that one map in the demo much more entertaining then anything in Q3

Actually the Original Wolfenstein plays more like Q3. My guess, if you didn't actually know it was using the Q3 engine, you'd have no idea.

keep in mind the full version also includes the single-player in addition to the online game. specifically, the story revolves around the nazis trying to revive an ancient army of undead warriors. and the $60 is the cost of rtcw in the limited ed metal packaging with bonus stuff, the other will be $40-45.

right now, i wouldn't buy it but ill wait and see.

The single player is what I really want the most from this game. Many fond memories of playing the original Castle Wolfenstein.

You can tell it's the Q3 engine, but I don't care. The Q3 engine kicks ass anyways. There are many games out there based on iD software engines, and there will be more. Lets not forget that iD software has been watching over the development of this game somewhat, I'd just be happy that the game developers are concentrating on making a fun new game instead of trying to radically change everything.

CS was a mod to half-life, and now it's on store shelves. It's the game that is important.

I'm hooked on this game. It's great fun. No bunny hopping crap, or jumping 6ft in the air from standing with a full weopon load. More realistic in some respects to my beloved CS that seems to have passed away lately.

I can't wait to get into the castle to see what the Nazi experiments look like. Should be spooky and awesome.
