RT-AC66U 2.4GHz N-Only mode.

Hello everyone. My intention is to use the Asus RT-AC66U in N only mode and use an old Buffalo router I have (DD-WRT flashed) as a wireless B\G access point, in doing this I am hoping to get the best performance from the RT-AC66U. The Asus, however, doesn't appear to operate in N only mode on the 2.4GHz radio since G devices can still connect to it, very odd. Does anyone else have this problem, or is it in fact quite normal, also, would this setup yield better wireless performance over leaving the RT-AC66U in Mixed mode for B\G\N access without a seperate B\G access point?

Set the Wireless priority of your devices to connect to the Buffalo.

Thanks Jack, I completely agree with your solution and have my devices setup that way already, following advice on another forum. I thought a more elegant solution would be to have the main router setup as N only and the access point setup for B\G only, this way, G devices doing a scan would only find the G network, there-by stopping my children from accessing the N only network from their PS3 and hogging the bandwidth, alas this doensn't seem possible since the N only mode in the Asus router doesn't seem to implement correctly.

Hmm.... If each Wireless source has its own security code (password), and the kids are Not privy to the Asus code.

Then AFAIK they can not Access it.

see buffalo is cool with using 450 of 2.4 (all channels) and whatever up in 5ghz, get two usb wifi dongles and use windows teaming and tear a butthole in the whole spectrum ;)
