I am coming here to get the skinny on RSS Feeds.

I am gathering that a program on your computer - that runs in the background, checks websites that are "feeding" news through a special format. Anything new - you get a notice form your application that is running in the background. Is that true?

Does cost anything on either end?

What the system requirements?

And how do I start doing this? Espeically from the supplying news end - I run a website for a non-profit organization that has a main yearly event, and sporadic unplanned events (an astronomy club) and this seems extremely interesting.

Thanks. I know I could do a web search - I figured someone here could probably give me the low down before I spend alot of time figuring out that something will not work for me.

About RSS

:)

RSS isn't a product you buy, it's a standardized XML format for content syndication, so it's free. If you use FireFox, you can subscribe/add an RSS feed to your favorites, and it will automatically update with the latest items.

Read that link that I posted to find out about making RSS documents. :)
