RS480M2-IL RAID will NOT work!

Having hugely frustrating problem with my new ATI board. Wondering if there is someone here that may have run into the same problem....

My previous setup was an Antec Aria with a K8MM-ILSR which supported RAID 0. I had a 2800+, a gig ram, 9500pro, dvdrw, and two WD 80gb sata drives. The drives were configured in RAID 0 and ran flawlessly. Now, I got rid of the mobo, replaced it with the RS480M2 and a s939 3000+ and dropped the vid card. So im using less power than before.

My problem is this, I cant get RAID to work at all on this board. Ive tried formating the drives then creating an array in the SATA bios. But when loading windows i press F6 and load the raid drivers (the ones that came on the disk and another disk with latest ones from MSI, both produce same results) and then i get the "setup is starting windows..." screen and the machine locks up. Ive tried setting the drives as "IDE" in the bios and then setup works fine and gets to the partition screen but the drives are listed as separate drives, not in a RAID. I set it back to "RAID controller" in the bios and froze up again. I am at a loss for what to do. I updated the bios with the latest from MSI also and unplugged all usb/firewire headers thinking they were disrupting something, still nothing.

One more thing i should note is that all this time ive been trying to install windows xp sp2, and that i also tried win xp home non-sp1 and it got to the setup is starting windows screen and paused for about 20mins then continued and let me format with NTFS but as soon as i selected it, the system locked up again because i left it on for an hour and never got 1% even.

Please if someone can help, id really appreciate it!!

While I personally don't have any useful information for you, I have read previous threads concerning the SATA RAID controller on the MSI RS480M2-IL. Folks on these forums have gotten the RAID controller working, but I remember for certain it was not with the disk that came with the motherboard.

The truth is out there, Mulder, you just need to keep looking.

Nothing from MSI's tech support to help with this?

Thanks for the reply!

Actually as stated, I tried both the supplied floppy and a floppy of my own with the latest drivers from MSI's site on it. Both give the same results.

Can you show me a link of someone with it working? Maybe I could fish around there and see what i come up with....

Yes I emailed MSI over a week ago and have gotten nothing back from them :(

Coul,

Welcome to the Forums!

Have you ever tried posting HERE?

That forum is actually moderated by a guy from ATI and is specifically aimed at the XPress 200 MoBos.

Fixed myself!

Just thought id post what I did in case someone else experiences this hell!

Not sure which option it was that did the trick, but I went into the bios and disabled APIC mode, disabled ACPI, and disabled CoolNQuiet. Rebooted and windows install went without a hitch!

Thanks to those that replied and I hope this helps anyone else that may experience this.
