I got a 09-27-05 RROD Xbox, am I stuck with Xclamp fix and hope it works? Does MS go by manufacture date for the 3 years or do they go by when they announced the added RROD 3 year extension?

As far as I know every xbox made is under warranty due to this (if its the RROD). I just got one fixed that I bought the week they came out. Just go to the site and setup the process.

I'm sure they go by manufacture date (or possibly the date on your receipt if you have one), BUT since the Xbox 360 has not yet been out for 3 years I would think that they would ignore the fact that the manufacture date was more than 3 years ago. Clearly you haven't had it for 3 years yet.

Wasn't sure when they was released. Couple more questions. Are new refurbs coming with HDMI yet? Are the refurbs more reliable?

No, MS made a Falcon motherboard -without- HDMI to fit in the old cases.

If you get a new 175 watt brick with your refurb then it's a Falcon, otherwise it's probably the original design with a new heatsink.

yep they are replacing it, no problem. Curious once I get one back what kinda warranty does the refurb have if any?

I don't have a definitive answer, but I would bet you that you will be covered for a good little while with your replacement. It does have some warranty because there are people that had to send in their replacements due to rrod.

do an xclamp and do it right the first time. I modded mine anyways so I didn't really have a warranty although I've heard of people sending them in without the warranty sticker and getting it replaced, I find that hard to believe.

Anways, the xclamp mod is easy if you are comfortable with putting heatsinks on along with thermal paste and also taking things apart. Now I won't really have to worry about a RROD at all because there is none of that faulty xclamp bs plaguing my 360.

What's the point of tearing open your console and modding it when it can still be fixed for free by somebody else? Sure it fixes some heat issues, but if your drive breaks or something else you're screwed. I'm all for mods and DIY fixes but I won't touch shit until after warranty.

Also, I think during the huge surge of broken consoles MS was just sending out refurb units like crazy w/out really checking if the warranty seal was still good. I don't think it'd fly anymore.

90 day warranty and they give you one free month of Xbox Live. Also all the replacements they're sending back have the LiteOn drive, so there's no way to mod it without spoofing another drive.

All you needed to do was put on the label they sent you.

I just got my xbox back from repair last thursday due to the RROD. I sent it in on a Monday, got it back the next thursday.. 10 days total turnaround.

All I can say is my xbox (as long as it's the same one) has scuff marks on it that weren't on it before, but the DVD drive is MUCH quieter and it's working fine.
