RPG games for kids?

I know about FATE but I was wondering if anybody knew of any other good RPG (or other) computer games for an 8yr old.

Hmmm, that is the one I was going to recommend. My little brother and sister loved Pajama Sam when they were younger. Hell I am five and seven years older than them and I thought it was cool.

Get them Doom. They need to start their training for later in life. Might as well start with the classics.

Wouldn't that be Commander Keen then? 🙂

Super Mario RPG runs flawlessly on the SNES emulator, dated graphics aside it's still bad ass. Mallow rocks.

pffft, mario/princess/bowser FTMFW

Damn straight, although sometimes I used Geno in place of Bowser for that "press Y at the right time for 9999" trick. 🙂

Lego starwars and Stepmania and Frets on fire.

Stepmania is the free Dance Dance Revolution-clone for computers and there are thousands of free legal songs/step files on the internet to use in the game.
Just go to http://www.stepmania.com to download it for free as well as the songs.
Plus its great exercise for them and they won't be sitting lethargic for hours staring at the computer screen!!!!
I've lost quite a few pounds and have gained alot of stamina from playing stepmania. It help keep me fit!
As for the dance pad you can either get ANY one and a usb adapter or get a RedOctane Ignition dance pad with usb which is avaiable at your local Gamestop or EBGames and maybe Bestbuy.

'Frets on Fire' is the free guitar hero clone with free legal songs on the internet (many are very good rock and roll songs)

You can thank me in pm message thanks 😉

Personally, I think an 8 yearold would enjoy KOTOR 1 and 2.

As much as I freakin LOVE KotOR, I'm not sure an 8 year old would understand the mechanics in that game. 🙁

Unless they were uber-gifted/talented.

Super Mario RPG definately. Chrono Trigger may be good, as well as Secret of Mana. These are all JRPGs though. I don't really know of any WRPGs for kids. Also, they require emulators.

I think in a few years, around age 11 or 12, the kid could handle Diablo, but you may not be happy with the gore.

I was around that age when I played my first RPG. It was Shining Force for the Genesis. I got into it hard core and pretty much played nothing but RPGs for several years.

It plays well in emulation.

I will take a look at KOTOR and I think you can disable the gore in diablo/diablo 2...That game is somewhat similar to FATE...

I defintely don't want him jumping around in here with a DDR game because we have a 55 gallon fishtank in the computer room that would bounce.

My 8 year old son has been playing KOTOR 1+2 for the past couple of years. right now he's on his 5th time playing (fully darkside this time) and requires no intervention. Just run through some of the game with him, he'll get it.
