I've never liked "wrestling" as it's known here in the States, but I always liked Piper somehow.
Same, I never understood professional wrestling as a child. I would meet a new friend, and at some point I would learn they were really into 'big time wrestling' and then feel that dread of 'Oh no, they like WWF and now I'll have to pretend I like it, too, or else I'll feel like I'm the strange defective kid who is unlike the others....again."

IMO, Piper's fight scene with Keith David (or their characters) in "They Live" still ranks among the best fight scenes in movie history. "Put the glasses on!"
 
Piper's Pit was fantastic!

He was a local guy (west side of Portland) and his kids went to high school with my ex. She'd even gone over to his house, and said he was really cool.
