So I have a desktop with DSL. The DSL modem uses a USB connection. I want to buy a router so that I can use the DSL on my laptop too. My question is that if my desktop is off, can I still use DSL on my laptop?

Yes, provided you do the right thing.

I.e. Buy a Wireless Cable/DSL Router.

DSL PPPOE and Cable/DSL Routers.

Wireless What Should I Get?

It probably has both, don't use the usb, buy a router, use ethernet or wireless for all your comps

Why shouldn't I use a USB? Because it is slower?

Can it be any kind of wireless router or does it have to be Cable/DSL router?

If you want to use a Router you can not use the USB. The Routers do not have USB Ports.:light:

The name of the devices is "Wireless Cable/DSL Router".

For basic operation there are all the same. If you have special needs you need to educate yourself and find a unit that provide answers to your needs.

How do I educate myself?

You read the content of the Links that are listed in my previous post.
