Please. Im going crazy.

1)are there any downsides to static ips? im not in a network of any kind.

2)how come my ip, dhcp, dns, and default gateway are all the same f'ing number?

3)how is everyones friggin ip # 192.168.1.1. That just doesnt make sense. arent they UNIQUE?

This is rediculous. On top of that, my ip is apparantly NOT my ip...my isp apparantly has a different one, so its completely different from (192.168.1.1) which it is supposed to be.

What router are you using, do you have DHCP enabled on the router? If so is windows/linux/osx or whatever OS your using set to an ip address or setup to recieve an IP address through DHCP. Default gateway should be the network IP address of your router, same with DHCP, and DNS, but you should have your own IP address 192.168.1.x The only downside to static ips is, if you want to change IPs around u need to go and do it on all of the computers and you need to keep track of what your already using, as opposed to the router doing it for you.
