Router suggestions and SNORT as a NIPS (Layering Network security)

Brown out killed my WRT54G, so we might as well bump up our whole network security plan while we are at it.

Desired Router features:
Gigabit WAN and LAN
VLANS
Simultaneous dual band wifi
guest mode on the 2.4ghz at least
DLNA for media
Whatever protocols are needed for secure pictures transmission from a camera system, VOIP(Qos???), and online gaming.

Router price range: So far it looks like a dual band Linksys or Netgear go up to $180. Would a Cisco device be a better solution if I threw in another $100-200???

SNORT as a NIPS:
The guest networks that current gen routers provide are a nice start however I would like something extra that will black hole/DMZ a device from within our network if something got in and tried to spread to our other systems. Overkill...Most definately...but I would like to stay ahead of the curve, and have a proactive layered system. Spending time with my kids is much more valuable that money these days. I want to set it and be able to forget it for months at a time.

So has anyone used SNORT as a NIPS? Thoughts???

Would a dedicated box with dual gigabit adaptors slow down movie streaming, or FPS games?

Does SNORT also protect the WIFI bands? I am willing to install an additional 2.4ghz and an additional 5ghz wifi adaptor.
