I have a comcast, a linksys router, and a 3com cable modem. Up until this evening I had 2 computers running through my router and was getting on the net just fine. We had a power outage in my area due to wind and electrical storms and as a result my hardware was off for several hours. So when the power comes back I boot everything up and the computers seem fine, but I cant get on the net. I notice that the status light for the pc link on my modem is blinking. So I fiddle with cables, try a few different ones and nothing works. So I try both computers and make sure they can see the router and they can. So I unplug the router for about 25 minutes, come back, same problem. So I plug one machine right into the modem, no problems. Plug the other in, it doesnt work. It should be noted that the computer that worked contained the nic that comcast(well @home at the time)gave me. I dont know what should have changed, but I can't figure out what to do. I tried several cables between the modem and the router and that didnt do it so I'm stumped. Did the router get messed up? Any ideas?
thanks,
-doug

I know you probably tried something this simple but did you try rebooting both computers? Usually when a router resets, you have to reboot the computers to get the DHCP assignments. Just a thought. Also if you setup MAC address spoofing, make sure the router didnt lose that setting.

If you remember what you did to originally configure the router it might be wise to reset the router and reconfigure it.

However, I have a hunch that if only the pc with the cable company supplied nic is working it is the MAC address that is the problem. Some providers check for your nic cards MAC address. There should be a configuration option in the routers menu to clone you pc's MAC address. You might want to give that a try.

reset your router. that happens to me on various occassions. does your red light on the router turn on? if so, just unplug the router, and click that little reset button with a paper clip. works all the time.

Tried all of the suggestions but nothing worked. I still get that green light flashing. I may leave everything unplugged overnight, but I doubt that will help. Could the router be damaged in some way? I can do an even exchange with no problem(one of the few perks of working at best buy). Any other ideas?
