Router slowing down download speeds

I recently purchased a Netgear WR37 and got everything hook up and running. For some reason though, my download speeds are almost half of what they used to be. I am hooked up WIRED to the router right now. I regularly download at 35 mb/sec, but with the router hooked up I can only manage 20-22 mb/sec. I've also lost about 1/3 of my upload speed as well (dropped from 12 mb/sec to 9 mb/sec). If I plug directly back into the cable modem, my speed goes back up to 35 mb/sec.

Wireless speed can only be tested on my phone, and it is getting 10-11 mb/sec download and upload. The app on my phone actually tested with a higher upload speed than my computer (assuming the phone app is accurate).

I am using the most up-to-date firmware for the router, just ran the setup wizard to get it going, set a password, and started using it. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Check the QOS settings. You may have them enabled and it may be reserving bandwidth for "high priority" traffic.

I got it figured out, thanks for suggestions though.

This Netgear router has a pretty long range. It is sitting in my office, which is at the front of my house, and my phone can connect to my home network from my brother's front door 8 houses down.

So what is the answer?????

I hooked the router up with a 1 ft. run of cat6 cable and a new 10ft run of cat6 to my computer. I didn't think it'd matter, but I tried it and it worked. I'm back at my normal speeds. I might have had a cable going bad.
