I have seen mention if settings to make for your router to improve bandwisth when using fios gigabit service, but I can't actually find a good description of what settings to make. I'm using an Asus 68u, so looking for any useful links.

What client devices are you using and what type of NICs do they have?

The Asus 68u has QoS, in the router settings it is under the Traffic monitoring tab I believe, I would make sure this is off.

Also, what speeds are you currently getting and on what test?

If it's WAN-LAN bandwidth, just make sure CTF and FA are on. It's debatable whether it supports FA. Apparently if it says it's on, it's optimal, but the HW doesn't support FA. However, it won't matter. You're getting full performance when it says it's on. They probably just don't care to update the firmware text.

If it's the LAN switch bandwidth, you're probably seeing questions about jumbo frames. That is something only you can do by tweaking it for your network. Out of the box you should be in the 900+ area. If so I'd leave it alone.

Aditionally you'll want to install ASUS Merlin to easily control and turn these features on. You can adjust CTF/FA with ASUS firmware, but there is no direct switch. For example, turning off traffic monitor, turns off CTF.

I did get 900+ on the fios router with default setting. When I made the Asus primary for me again it was doing 750.

Check if the router has firmware updates and the aforementioned QoS and other settings.

QoS was off, Traffic analyzer was on. Previous firmware couldn't have been more than 6 months old but did apply an update.

jumbo frame is diasbled and CTF is enabled as mentioned above.

Speed after FW change has gone from 750 average to 850 though.

Have you tried iperf testing to see if it's a WAN to LAN isolated issue or if it persists with LAN to LAN performance as well?
