Router questions

I have 2 Linksys WRT54GL routers with tomato on both. The only wireless that I use is just between them.

There is a setting for MTU and the options are Default (1500) or manual. Would there be any benefit to using manual and increasing the size?

There is also a setting called Frame burst. The only options are Disable or Enable. Does anyone know what it is or if it would be better to leave off or turn it on?

I recommend manual, especially if you use a Xbox 360. I recently couldn't get the Xbox to connect to the xbox live service due to the MTU set to auto. Manual at 1500 fixed the problem.

I'm not having a problem with connecting to live, but I've been having some lag problems that I've been thinking were mainly due to the fact that I live in an apt with a lot of wireless going on.

I'm just curious if increasing it past 1500 would be better or if it would cause problems.

I don't believe that you can increase the MTU greater than 1500. That's the max for 10/100 ethernet. It's useful if you want to decrease it, say, if you were using PPPoE, you would decrease it to 1492 or lower.

As for Frame Burst, I think that's only usable if you have a GS (SpeedBooster) router running DD-WRT. Otherwise, it's not useful.

I haven't tried to increase it so it could be limited to 1500. Was curious if it was worth messing with.

In tomato there is an option for Afterburner and for Frame Burst. I was thinking, possiblly wrong, that since the options were there that the router could use these features. I haven't tried either, I found what Afterburner it is suppose to do but I'm not sure what Frame burst is for.

That brings up a new question. Does anyone know if the WRT54GL can really use either of these options?
