Router problems...

I have 4 computers connected to my Linksys BEFRS41 router (i've had it for over a year now), then all of a sudden the connection started failing. (if however just one computer is directly connected to the cable modem, then there are no problems). I thought it was the router that went bad, so I got a Dlink 604... same thing. I did check the logs just now on the Dlink and it says something about "spoof" or "spoofing" then the router disconnects and reconnects... same cycle. What's the problem and how can I fix it?

Been through this problem with the same router and trust me it is a very simple solution. You have more than one computer on the network with the same name. This can happen if switch the ethernet cables connected to the ports of your router. When the router see or notice a change (after some time) it will add a the name of it's DHPC clients list and block the other client of the same name. To verify this change the names of the computers to something you have never used before. Trust me, I have spent hours on this problem...

Check your systems for the Welchia worm, I got infected and the massive pings it was sending out caused me to DOS my own router. Something similar may be happening to you.

Makes sense... two the computers on the network share the same name. I disconnected one of them, the problem seems to be solved. How do I change the name of the computer? (Windows 2000 Professional). Thanks.

If I remember right. Right click on 'My Computer' and select "Properties'. It's under the 'Computer Name' Tab. I don't have a win2k system running right now. Trying to remember from memory here. So if I'm wrong I hope someone will correct me. hehe
