Router problems & Ventrilo

For the past month or so, I have been trying to run a Ventrilo VoIP server on a computer I hardly use. I have a router, so I have to forward ports for everything (of course). Recently I had reset my router to factory because I couldn't get into it via web browser. Then I added the port I needed to for people to be able to connect, and it worked...for a time. Today after running the server remotely again, it does not let people in despite the fact that it lets me in and that the port is forwarded.
Usually it locks up like this when I access my router using the so called "control utility", instead of a browser. I used the utility only because the browser interface would not let me add a port for another program (oddly enough). Now I believe that the controlo utility is still running on the actual router somehow, and is preventing people from joining my server.

Any ideas?

I'd look for a newer firmware for your router.

I use Ventrilo, and it does have its quirks, though. Sometimes I have to uninstall the client or server, depending on which one is misbehaving, and reinstall.

Good luck

I did try updating the firmware, once a long time ago, and recently when I reset. I do not think it works, since the date of the firmware does not change to the later one. Version numbers are still the same.
I recently tried an older version of the Ventrilo server, 2.1.2, which works without a hitch so far. Maybe it's because I had to tell it which IPs to use. I'm not sure. FTR, I have static IPs set up. I don't know if that is why 2.3.0 was having problems.
I was thinking of getting a new router, but I really want to make sure that that's the problem first. I've had bad experiences with routers.
Uninstalling/reinstalling the 2.3.0 worked once before, but even if it does work again, I don't want the same problem to come up 1 month later.
