Router problem

i use a netgear mr314 wireless router connected to a cable modem

Problem: Sometimes in the middle of surfing the net all internet functions just stop, web pages wont load, kazaa wont load, instant messenger wont sign on, cant check email, etc...

this problem doesnt fix itself until i restart my computer. Lately i started thinking my router was the cause of the problem, so i disconnected the router and directly connected the cable modem to my comptuer and in 2 weeks of using it this way have not had the problem once, which otherwise occurs daily.

So clearly my router is the cause of this problem. Now even though it is a wireless router, i am connected via cat5 cable since the router is right next to my particular machine so there is no sense for me to connect it via wireless.

i want to know if there is anything ican do to correct this problem...i called netgear and got disconnected the first time and put on hold for 40 minutes the 2nd time so im a little fed up with them right now so i was hoping someone here could help me

thanx

i believe i did but im not really sure... i'll check on that when i get home today

however i dont know if that will solve the problem since im not using a wireless connection, i am directly plugged into the router

I have the same problem with my Linksys router. At least once a day (more on the wireless ports), the connection just dies and I have to reset the router. If I don't use the router, I do not have the same problem. The kicker is I have sent it in to Linksys to fix and they sent a new router, which has the same exact problem. And the firmware upgrades don't fix it. I am not going to buy any further Linksys products again because their quality sucks.

Similar problem as wyvrn with a Linksys 4-port multi-tunnel VPN router, but mine just does not give out IP's via DHCP. Have to reset the device to cure the problem. My brother, with the same router, suffers the same thing.

I have upgraded to the latest firmware, but Linksys' answer was to just update again and then try a hard reset. In ther words, they don't have an answer.

I only notice it because my Pocekt PC is the only device that uses DHCP, where the desktops have static IP's.

Fun thing is Netgear charges you to ship you a replacement.
