okay.. hopefully i can explain this well enough so that you can understand my problem.
my old wireless router died on me, so i replaced with a cheap di-711 wireless gateway.. Becuase it doesnt have a built in switch, i am also using an old 4 port switch i had to hook up my wired computers.
right now i'm trying to get this router set up and working-- i have verizon DSL but i'm not even worried about getting my connection shared on all the computers yet--- i need to get past this first problem before i do anything else.
oh- and the router did work perfectly for about 10 minutes after i first set it up. Then i had to leave for a few minutes, and when i came back it had stopped working and hasnt worked since.
okay:
i have the switch hooked up to the lan port on the router. I have 1 wired computer hooked up to the switch, And 2 wireless computers on the network as well.
Usually, you should be able to type in 192.168.0.1 and get the config utilty for the router, however when i do this now on any of my computers, all i get is a file not found / page cannot be displayed error. However by going to the command prompt and checking the IP config-- all of my computers have been issued ip numbers by the router using DCHP, and all the settings and numbers appear to be correct.
I can even go into my network neighborhood and see all the files shared among the 3 computers... i can transfer files between the 3 computers, ping the 3 computers... however when i try to ping the router, 192.168.0.1, i get a request timed out error.
so i know the router is working, somehow. All of the computers can see eachother and communicate on the network, they've all been assigned proper ip's in the 192.168.0.xxx range, and all of the settings appear to be correct. However i still can't access the router.
i've tried unplugging the router and letting it sit for a while, i've done many manual resets to the router and everything else i can think of.
can anybody here offer any advice at all? unfortunately i bought the router used from the fs/ft forum so rma'ing and returning it really arn't options. I think i'm stuck with it. I'm going to call d-link tech support tomorrow.. however in the past they've been less than helpfull so any help anyone here can give would be greatly apreciated.
thanks~
