Ok, I posted this same problem a while ago during Christmas time. The problem I had was that my router at home suddenly stopped working for my laptop, none of my settings were changed and the only thing else that was different was that I changed from RoadRunner to SBC DSL. Additionally during that time I brought home my college desktop and tried plugging that in. So I had 3 computers to fool around with and I didn't have time to fully test everything and every configuration. People were telling me to uninstall the SBC software from my comps cuz that stuff just screws things up, or to make sure I had dynamic IP addressing on, or to check my DNS stuff, or to check my router settings, etc.
I didn't think any of these were the problem because both my laptop and my desktop from college have built in lan ports on their mobos, but the old dell that was still at my house had a separate ethernet card plugged into one of the pci slots. After fooling around all the freaking settings on all the computers, comparing all the IP's and DNS's and Gateway's, and after multiple direct input testing straight from the cable modem itself, and after buying a NEW ROUTER. The ony conclusion is that for some godforsaken reason, the network in my house will only work if the computers connected to it are using a separate (aftermarket) ethernet card.
Has this happened to anyone else?!?! Does anyone know what the hell is going??? I really don't understand why this would be becuase both the laptop and my desktop work fine on and off campus networks. My gf also has the same problem with her laptop at her house too, but this doesn't seem to make sense to me cuz there shouldn't be a difference between a built-in lan port and a pci one.... AND my laptop USED to work on my house network using the built-in ethernet port.
Someone please explain this to me! 😕
