Hi guys.

Have had my WPN824v2 for 2 or so years now, and just this week, it began resetting itself numerous times a day. Doesn't seem to be any particular reason, I can be either online or not, or even in the room or not, and it'll just sit here and cycle itself. The message "A Network cable is unplugged" and then it'll try and release/renew I guess, and it'll come back for a little, then go out again.

When I am sitting here, if I have uTorrent(or any other torrent program) going, it'll usually drop connection, and all 5 lights will just flash, with the only fix being pulling the power cord.

Sound to you like its on its last leg? I did a restore, numerous hard and soft resets, and it still does it.

I know its not the PC or the modem, as I have the internet straight to my PC now, without any issues. Meanwhile the router as I type this just reset itself, without being hooked to anything but the power.

anything else I can try? Or is it time for a new router? if so, is the 520GU still a recommended option? I see it on the egg for 35 bucks AR. Also see the WRT54G2 for under $50, which is the better choice?

Thank you in advance.

Issue started again this morning. Turned the PC on this morning, was downstairs for an hour or so, came back up and all 5 lights(ports 1-4 + internet connectivity light) were all flashing together. had to unplug to get back to normal.

Try a new power adapter. I know a lot of people have had failed wall warts cause all kinds of problems with Netgear routers.

I received the same bit of advice from another forum, turns out I did have one of the craptastic power bricks made by DVE, and a quick trip to Radio Shack fixed it. Picked up a 12V 1000ma adapter and everything has worked perfectly thus far. Still had to drop $20 on the adapter but saved me from spending $50 on a router I didn't need!

Good call. :)

I stopped using Netgear products because of this very same issue. The first switch I had this happen to I returned to Fry's, only to have the 2nd switch do the same thing in a matter of weeks... this time when I talked to Netgear they basically said I was SOL unless I sent in the power adapter. Now I just use HP ProCurve switches :)
