Router issues? Network traffic problems?

Ok, so recently I got a bunch of spyware on my home PC (standalone), but removed it nicely. However I have had slow Internet on and off since then (slow 80% of the time, by slow I mean it will go along fine for 10 minutes then get slow for like 15 minutes, then fail to load a page for about 5 minutes).

Interesting thing is that when I use my laptop (plugged in the same switch as my desktop, which runs through a wireless ethernet bridge about 40 feet downstairs to another bridge and a router), it does the same thing. So I don't think it's an issue on my PC like I originally thought.

MAIN POINT:
My setup is with a Linksys 4portswitch/Router. It seems to take a really long time to resolve a host name. Even with google sometimes IE will just say "resolving 68.34.63.109 (for example) and can't resolve the name. Any ideas what's up with this thing?

run a constant ping in a command window.

ping www.cisco.com -t

also

ping <ip address of your router/default gateway> -t

see which one fails when you have problems and we can deduce if its a LAN or a provider problem.

Are you using the latest firmware for the router. I had a similar problem with my linksys router and upgrading to the latest helped.

thanks for the replies fellas. I will try to upgrade the firmware. I'll also try a couple of other suggestions you guys gave. I was hesitant to upgrade the firmware b/c it has worked fine for 2+ years I didn't want to mess with it. Also, it seems to be for all computers on the network. I'll try to troubleshoot more and get more info when I get home from work tonight.

btw:How do I check the TCP/IP parameters?
