Greetings...

Ok, I was running an 8-port Switch (DLink DSS8+) up to Xmas. 5 Computers on the system, no problems (Shaw High Speed - Cable). I got a LinkSys BEFSR81 8-port Wired Router v3 for Xmas. I basically swaped it out for the switch (hooked it up properly, not my first time doing this), and everything goes great. The LAN is working fine, but the internet has problems... some pages load slow or stall (didn't before) and some downloads stall/freeze (didn't before from same sites). Since the router cam out of the box configured for my type of system, most of the settings are default. Can anyone give me some help/advice here? Perhaps some setting recommendations, or even some explanations as to why the internet is suddenly messed up. My only thought is that more "invasive" ads are now being blacked, causing some websites to stall when loading.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I would reset and try again...you should not see a slowdown versus before.

Also, you were using a switch before...does that mean you had multiple live IP's?

I have reset... a couple of times. All the IPs are in accordance with the NAT now, but each had it's own before. Remember, it's only certain sites, not all, that seem to stall... others load fine. Problem seems intermitent.

kind of flying blind here.
let me offer this

do some testing.
run:
ping-t 3dgamers.com
let it run for a few minutes, and see what kind of response times you get
if you see over 100-200ms, then run:
tracert 3dgamers.com
and see where you are seeing the latency go higher.

once you have done that we will be able to determine where the problem is, or isn't

OK, the response times for the Ping were low, closer to 100 (3 lines).

The Tracert did something like this:

25 24.xxx.xx.x
23 Shawcable
24 Shawcable
22 Shawcable
108
110

I can't read the last couple of lines (108 & 110) because the window closes too quick.

Well, I had that exact same router for 2 years. It did what you are experiencing for the last 6 months of its life before I started to lose internet connection every 10 mins and had to power cycle it everytime. I finally trashed it and bought a netgear router and an 8 port switch. It's been smooth sailing ever since.

I went to an 8-port router to avoid bridging equipment. This router has received excellent reviews on the 'Net and in magazines... I see no reason for it not to work well.
