Router Dying?

Lately my router has been crapping out every time I try and download something large where alot of bandwidth is being used, it just disconnects. I tried a direct connect to the cable modem and there were no issues at all (the disconnect happens on both wired and wireless connections).

It's an old WRT54G rev 1.1

I looked for firmware but I have the latest one according to the Linksys website; so do you think it's time to replace this router?

I was shopping around a bit, and i'm not sure what I should be getting as far as routers/brand names, support go.

Any input is appreciated.
