Amazon.com has the new D-Link 804 4-port fully switched cable/DSL router for $79.99, with a $30 mail-in rebate. As best I can tell from reading technical documents on D-Link's site and elsewhere, the 804 appears to be a replacement to the 704, with the main differences being that the 804 has the plug-ins on back (makes more sense) and has a graphical interface for changing the router's settings.

I have a 704, and it's great -- very fast, easy to configure, COM port on back for modem back-up, sep. uplink port (so you get a full 4 ports for your computers/printers... no need to take one up with the actual cable/dsl connection).

Note that there is already a thread about getting this router on clearance for $50 at Best Buy without rebates, but many users have reported problems finding the router at BB (in stock, and/or at that price).

To get this deal:

1. Find the router at Amazon.com
here. Price is $79.99, and you can print the $30 rebate from this page.

2. Use a $10 off a $75 purchase code. **UPDATE** The code is: AMZNSWEEPBXX. Now, before everyone gets their undies in a bunch: Amazon SPECIFICALLY says: "*** This offer is restricted to one per customer. Feel free to pass it on to a friend! ***" This code is intended for wide, public release.

3. Shipping will be about $6. Your net cost will be $80 - $10 -$30 + $6 = $46.

If anyone has any more insight into the differences between this router and the DI-704, I'd like to hear it.

Do a google search for "DI-804" and you'll find lots of pages that say this is the replacement for the DI-704. Looks good.

What's with the 32 users statement on the website? I just bought the 704(and love it!) and it says it supports 253. What gives? Is it lower funcioning in certain ways?

I do prefer the 704 because of the metal casing(not plastic). But the 804 wins big points for having all cables in back.

Opps! Answered my own question. It does 32 behind the firewall. And it does 253 total with attached hubs and switches(of course) without protection.

Great find. Amazon just dropped the price on this router by $8 and D-Link increased the rebate by $10. This router is at a smokin' price now!
