My friend and I have been debating this for a week now and we cant really tell for sure. So does anyone know if the route 1 that runs through the new brunkswick, NJ area the same route 1 that runs through Media, PA and eventually through College Park, MD area?
thanks,

That's US Route 1, and yes--it's all the same. It runs from Key West where you can find milepost zero all the way up through NJ. Dunno if it continues into NY...

route 1 in jersey is the same as route 1 in maryland, which is the same route 1 in FL, that goes to the keys, and is the same route 1 in boston....

its truly a national highway, cause you could go from FL to boston taking the same road....but you probably wouldnt want to cause you'd spend 3 days waiting at red lights.

Does Route1 suck everywhere? It sucks here in Jersey and I have driven it in maryland too and it sucks there too.

<< Is Highway 1 the same as Route 1.. cause we have a Highway 1 on the westcoast that goes from Mexico all the way up.

Its called "PCH"..

Different route 1. The Pacific Cost Highway does not run up the east coast 🙂

There are some parts(such as wide rivers) where rt. 1 merges with I-95 or one of it's off-spring(ie, 295, 395, 495, 695, ect...).

Interesting Road. I follows I-95 through the northeast and Florida but other than that seems to go it's own way. A lot of it according to Delorme street atlas is 4 lane road. Looks like stoplight city though. :/

<< US route 1 passes through all these states ME,NH,MA,RI,CT,NY,NJ,PA, MD,DC,VA,NC,SC,GA,FL basically the entire east coast

p.s. and the traffic on the New Jersey section is terrible!

The traffic in NJ is NOTHING compared to the bizzarre 12-lane doubly-divided light every 500-feet section that runs through Philadelphia that features 2 of State Farm's worst intersections in America.
I used to drive it to work....a 30 mile drive too 90 minutes....takes an hour even with no traffic. The trick is this:
Run a red light just as it turns. You'll be at the beginning of the next cycle.
Don't get caught, though 🙂

My first 18 years of life were spent living in a house on Route 1 in Rhode Island, right next door to T.F. Green Airport. There are very few houses on that road in that particular section, and let's just say I witnessed my fair share of accidents, the most notable one being that of former middleweight(I think he was middleweight anyway) champion boxer Vinnie Pazienza, in which he broke his neck. I witnessed that accident when I was about 17years old and on my way to school at New England Tech, which was about a block from my house, when SLAM!! I wasn't looking when they hit but I was no more then fifty feet from the accident. To be honest I had seen a lot worse accidents and wouldn't have expected him to have broken his neck. Me and my buddy watched them extracate him. Anyhow, just thought i'd share that strange story.

rt1 passes right through my hometown on its way into NH, I used to take part of it to work driving in Boston. It is anywhere from 2-4 lanes each side near boston and a total bear during rush hour. Up into NH it turns into a 2 lane road and goes through portsmouth NH.

FYI, the Route 1 section in NJ is the road George Washington took from Philly to NYC on his way to be inaugurated (sp?) as the first President.

The worst part of Route 1 in Jersey is between the Menlo Park and Woodbridge malls. Two huge malls within a few miles of each other can only lead to disaster.
