post how you say it and where you are from and perhaps what's the closest route next to your home.
 
I speak to people all over the world regarding IP routing. It's 'rout'. You say 'root' and you considered a moran immediately.

def. in IT you wouldn't want to confuse something that's routing vs something that's rooted.

general distinction for me tends to be verb = rout, noun = root
 
In response to the OP's added question, I never use the expression "Route 9". It's Highway 9 or Interstate 9 or just I-9.

yeah, but whenever I see "route" my brain just cannot say 'root'. I understand your distinction though.

It's like asking a canadian to say "about", it always gives me a chuckle.
