You want to kill weeds fast like that? You might try boiling water. It's non-toxic too (once it's cooled).

Yeah, I did the same thing. It made brown spots on my grass around the dandelions. It's like the stuff was meant to highlight the weeds instead of kill them.

I use Roundup in places that I don't want to use my mower to cut. I use 24D (two - four - D) on my yard. It is a broad leaf herbacide and it kills most of the weeds (dandelions and ragweed are quickly wilting then dying after being sprayed) and it seems to not hurt the grass. Since using 24D, I have to cut my yard much less being that most of the weeds are gone.

If there is a place that you know you never want to have any growth, like around a fence, use Pramitol. Pramitol is a soil sterilizer that will not allow any plant to grow for about a year. The power company uses it around transformer stations to control weed growth.

FWIW, I have mostly found in my uses that the best situation is if you can have direct sunlight on the undesired weed. If there is no possibility to have direct sunlight, I agree with other folks use of plain old table salt poured into the base of the weed.

I'm no expert, just relating what has worked for me.

I use a long kitchen knife and slice their roots under the surface, then apply Scotts weed & feed. I never have too many for the remainder of the summer after a few hours of work.

This thread is amusing. I live in one of those parts of the world where shit just doesn't grow. Want one of your plants dead? Just stop watering it.

Always works quickly for me, but I've tried using stuff that I bought the year before, and it didn't work well. Now I don't buy more than I need for a summer.

1. It can take a couple weeks. Be patient. You can rototill after 24 hours if you want, or put down mulch or mow. It will have translocated to the roots by then.
2. Use up what you mix the same day. Glyphosate breaks down in 24 hours in tap water.
3. Glyphosate has gone generic and you can buy it for 1/3 the price of the name brand Roundup.

vinegar is another that kills everything, but it does change soil a little bit.

I use vinegar mixed with water in my blueberry bushes...helps to acidify the soil. I know a couple of people who use muriatic/hydrochloric acid mixed with water...but that's a bit TOO extreme for me.

See if you can get some Trimec and then mix it appropriately with water and some dish soap. Trimec is used by all major lawn care companies.

You are risking nuking your entire lawn using round up.

Good stuff. Found it at my local Tractor Supply Store because the big boxes don't carry it.

Works great on clover! But no need to over mix this stuff.

My neighbor does this. She wanders around the yard with a cigarette in one hand and a propane torch in the other burning weeds. She's never happier than when she's flaming weeds.

Yeah it works great. It can take up to 14 days to kill the weeds depending on the sun/heat and it should be watered in after 24 hours to get into the root system. I mix mine really strong though so the weeds are nearly dead over night. Gotta be careful if its really hot out though or you can mess the grass up. I recommend not even using a sticker agent during hot parts of the year.

Im a certified pesticide applicator so if anyone has questions feel free to ask :)

Also it appears you can get trimec on amazon now.. lol that place sells everything.

nobody else filled super soaker water guns with concentrated round up and wrote profanities in your friends yards?

It's been a little over a week and the areas I sprayed are yellow & dying. I guess patience is all that was needed.

I wonder if they changed the formula. I had some old roundup from like 8 years ago. It's the concentrated stuff. I mixed it up about what it suggested...although when it said "6 tablespoons" I just guesstimated that the cap was about a tablespoon...anyway my weeds were turning yellow like the next day. I has been sunny and about 75 degrees. I'll check mine again when I get home and see if they are brownish yet. But a week for some nice brownage seems about right.

Yes, it is MUCH weaker that it was 5+ years ago. Stupid EPA

They have some new formulations that have shown great control on bermudagrass and dallisgrass that are coming to market. It may be out for commercial use already.
