rounded the nuts on the cat

The gasket between the cat and the pipe is blown. There's no room under there to apply heat, so I guess I have to drop the exhaust system. 🙁

after I drop it, I'll use anti-sieze lubricant on my cat's nuts

although I probably will only have the car for another year or two.

90 miata

If you want to ghetto-rig it, get some permatex copper gasket maker, it's rated for 700 degrees F. Then use your finger or a screwdriver to get it in the seams. Let it dry for a few days (otherwise the pressure will make it shoot right out) and you will be good to go. Ask me how I know this works. 😱

Wow...I took this thread completely out of context. I still think there's some sig-worthy material here though. Hope you don't mind, OP. 😉

It's just a kind of donut gasket like that are on exhaust manifolds, right?

Just cut your cat's nuts off.

In a small space like that I'd grab my rotozip and use a cutoff wheel (probably a small one)or round nosed carbide burr to disintegrate the nut and bolt end. I have used a drill for this, but it's a lot slower going.

heeh, then i realized it was "The Garage" and not ATOT.

Just did the samething on my 94 miata and had no problem getting heat on them. No jack stands? I still ended up breaking 2 of the 4 nutts and had to cut 1 of them out which sucked.

:shocked:Wouldn't it be kinder just to let the vet neuter him?

I really hate working on exhaust systems, because they're always rusted solid, or heat creep has basically fused the metal together, and they're always dropping dust and rust flakes on you while you're under there. Be sure to wear goggles.😉

Use a grinder to cut them off, and then get new bolts at a hardware store.

Damn, I'm too late to make the "This is the automotive forum, not the bestiality forum" joke.

Oh, guess I did anyway. 😛
