"round" IDE cables

Besides making the inside of your system cleaner looking, what is the point of those "round" IDE cables?

depends on where you are from... I got mine from Bigfoot computers because it's in CANADA.

I found their prices comparatively cheaper than US stores actually.

I almost bought them from CRAZYPC but they were more money after figuring out the exchange rate..
there are QUITE A FEW places you can buy these things... just look around and find a store with a good price

don't forget to checkout resellerratings.com to find out the rep. of the store.

i made my own...used colored electrical tape (plastic type), folded the IDE cable down the center, then folded each half backwards, to make a W shape. Then just tape the W closed, and you have your cables! I guess they're not exactly ROUNDED, but they work great.

go HERE if you want to see what mine look like inside my case.

You can round them with an exacto knife and zip ties as well. Just make a small cut 1/2" or so and pull it as far as you want. Keep the ATA 66/100 in pairs cause they're so small and one is a ground wire and should be in close proximity to the data wire.

Try using the tip of safety pin (or any pin) to score the groove between the wires. I find this safer than using a razor blade or x-acto knife, no chance of accidentally cutting a wire. You can try to pull apart every wire or for a 40 wire cable -every 5 wires, or every 10 wires for an 80 wire cable. Tape up the loose wires or stick 'em in a split tube loom.

Round cables = signal crosstalk = corrupt data = reformat HD.

If you don't believe me. Well, I don't care. 😉 It's YOUR data!

ATA66 and 100 (and 133 I assume) by design are "flat" cables with a ground between each signal wire. ATA66+ will not work properly with any other cable. (sure, the drive will work)

Don't worry, I've caught much flame for saying it... but Ribbon cables were disigned flat for a reason. and it isn't "low disign cost either"

Round cables = FAD

Oh, and BTW, the Expensive round cables you find on the web... those are just some people that are taking advantage of you people who "think" round cables are "cool"

😀

whitedog, round cables are cool, they keep my machine a good 5*C cooler... and no data curruption..
