Round Cables

Are these cables as good as the stock ones, i'm thinking that for a few bucks i can have more room in my case, still trying to figure out which case there is only 256MB of them to chose from. thanks

like any normal user would notice the speed difference.

just get SATA and you won't have the dilema 😛 otherwise, I'd recomend rounded cables. ribbon cables are tres ugly.

Well, the ribbons are in alternating data and ground wires, equally spaced from each other so that crosstalk is nearly eliminated. With rounded cables, they are twisted around each other in close proximity so that crosstalk could pose a problem. I've only seen comparos that are well within the margin of error however, and I have never had a performance issue with rounded cables. The theory I've heard on why rounded cables work okay is because there is a lot of headroom for the ECC to work without impacting performance much (because hard drives don't use much bandwidth). Take it as you will, but ribbon cables are not required. Mission critical machines should remain with ribbons though.

some of the more expensive round cables go to the trouble of arranging the wires in a pattern, ie

xoxoxoxoxo
oxoxoxoxox
xoxoxoxoxo

and so on

you wont notice a difference in speed, get round cables. They look better and they get better airflow 😀

if you fold ribbon cables right, they allow WAY better airflow than round cables.

The only caution with round cables is that some of the cheaper ones are problematic with the connections into the block. Generally, it is not an issue. I went with SATA as the cables are 'natively' round. Of course, SATA connections themselves are problematic as they tend to be 'loose' and can become disconnected with little effort...

It's true, but it's too much hassle.. plus, the rounded cables are colorful or UV reactive 😀

Mine are very fast.We clocked them at 205 mph with an official Police LIDAR.The red ones are even faster though. 😉

has anyone ever proved that yet? when round cables first came out all the investigations into temps showed no change.

When rounded cables first started to rise in popularity, the theory was that crosstalk would impair performance. The actual performance results have would show that theory to be more "urban myth" rather than fact. linky
