round cables give trouble?

hello,

i'm looking to put in round cables for a FDD and one for HDD's (primary and secondary) and one for cd and dvd drives (primary and secondary)

some of the reviews at newegg talk of drives not being recognized...do you know if round cables could cause this.

and i read for ATA don't go over 18"...

thanks!

ive had 2 of the same kind of round ATA cable from the same store. after 3-4 months both went out and didnt ercognize the drive. Im thinking its that kind of brand or whatever. Ive had a few other rounded cables and have had zero problems

No problems..

Total system is rounded ATA.

And don't fall for the speed or data loss idea.. It really doesn't exist.

ditto got 2 ATA and a single device floppy connecter all are working great.

Both of these things can, in fact, happen. It's been documented by many people. Speed loss results from the data loss wich results (often) from poorly sheilded and manufacturered cables. Now, having said that, I've used rounded cables for a long time and have had only one problem with one cable causing problems. All in all, they are fine.

So there's no issues with the 26" Antec Cobras and that whole 18" max ATA cable thing? Only wondering because I actually fixed a HD problem I had one time by swapping a longer IDE cable for a shorter one.

I too have been using them for a few years now,I even have some 24" length cheap round cables from ebuyer and they have all been excellent on stability.

My PCs only have round cables in them so totally free of the normal flat ribbon type cables.

I've read that there is a risk with longer cables due to reflections which cause data loss and other problems, but no real conclusive information though as to which ones or under what conditions. I've got two systems with rounded cables and have not had any trouble at all, but then neither of them have cables longer than the 18" you mentioned.

Ditto, never had problems with rounded cables. In fact, I'm using relatively cheap cables from svc.com and everything works as it should with no noticeable drop in speed and such.
