Round Cable Odor

I have bought and trashed several clear round IDE cables lately because of the foul odor that the plastic sheath emits. I expected the odor to disipate with time or heat but that hasn't been the case. I just bought some new Vantec branded cables and have encountered the same problem. Would a Alcohol or Acetone wipe down help?

i have the vantec ones too, and i don't think the odor goes away. my previous no name round cables didn't have any smell. i just don't try to smell them anymore.

I just got 2 of those UV clear, round Vantec cables and Mmmmm, Mmmmmm do they smell new. I've had them for about a week now, and I use to smell it in the same room even with the case all closed. Now I don't really smell them anymore, only when I open up the case. I don't mind it, it's not really a nusiance for me, it's kinda comforting like that 'new car' smell!

Oh man.. i wasn't the only one

the odor smells AWFUL! .. i cleaned it w/ alcohol and little went away, but it's still there

*it's not like i was trying to smell the cable, but when i first opened the package, it smelled so bad i thought it came from trash can..

the Japanese silver round cable that rocked way back in 2000 didn't have anything like that .. albeit it was about 20x more expensive
