Sadly I've found more and more than RT's "professional" reviews do not meet my expectations, and they severely underrate decent performers, over-analyze the silly nonsensical action flicks, and over-dramatize anything rated PG-13 or below that does not meet their criteria for child-friendly.

Who gives a fuck about any of that? RottenTomatoes either needs a complete revamp in the form of a rating system broken down by different age brackets or some genuine competition. I'm sick and fucking tired of 45plus-somethings rating shit based on obsolete religious morals they utilize as a crutch for their daily lives while breaking them more often than they remember them, and the ambiguous American-based "boobies bad, brains splattered on wall good" mentality. Modern cinema is corny and CGI-ridden. We get it. Go fucking watch Casablanca in black and white if you want something deep.

Actually it sucks because so many of their "reviewers" are little better than yokels with vanity pages. They're less interested in writing a fair and accurate review than they are in making sure their review is replete with witty one-liners.

This is absolutely how I feel! Additionally, I agree with lokiju - their community reviews still hold a lot of value to me. I simply feel their professional reviewers are way too out of touch with reality and/or paid off.
 
Why not just....see movies that you find appealing, rather than base your decision on the ratings of people you've never even talked to once in your life?

I've always liked Jonathan Rosenbaum, David Denby...and sometimes Anthony Lane. even though Rosenbaum loathes one of my favorites (The Deer Hunter--he can go fuck an Ox on that one), I still value his opinions over most others.

I have no problem with critics. Yeah, it seems like some just like to review if only to hear themselves talk, but it's hard to disagree with a lifetime of experience and film education--the ones that really do know what they're talking about; and it's usually obvious with those critics.

wich is why i don't like RT anymore. the "reviews" are either bullshit and smell like they been paid off or they lack any real review.
