Rotisserie Chicken

techs

Lifer
A couple of years ago my local supermarket put in one of those rotisseries with the nice flames you can see thru the window.
It's amazing! For 5 bucks you can get a whole rotisserie chicken that literally falls apart when you pick it up. Moist and flavorful for only 5 bucks. That's the same price you can get one uncooked.
How do they do it?
Its not only about the best deal around, its one of the best meals around.

I LIKE it!

that uncooked chicken is prolly twice the size of the precooked one. they wouldnt do it if it didnt make them money.

baking one at home will be cheaper in the long run as it will probably feed you for two days, but theres always the allure of spending a little more and not having to work at all 🙂

Usually those are the chickens that have surpassed their "Best used by" date. Many times they are brined in a bleach solution to kill off germs.

Bleach? You sure about that one?

yeah, i've been known to pick one of those up on occasion.

4 meals or so for 5-6 bucks. Pretty hard to beat that.

wuts peruvian style?

Some amazing style I just learned about when a peruvian place called Super Pollo II opened one block from my house. 7.50 for a chicken and rice or fries = amazing.

There is some kind of spice on the chicken and it comes with this green chili sauce... so good... too bad the place is def gonna go out of business soon because i've never seen anyone else in there...

FUD

The chickens used here are fresh and not expired or dipped in bleach. That would be a violation of our health acts.

I have actually watched them get the chickens ready for rotisserie and its no different than what you or I would do.

Also the chickens are the same size or bigger than buying an uncooked one and roasting it yourself.

We get those all the time, one of our favorites. The local supermarket has a rotis chicken, bag of Hawiian dinner rolls ( yum) and a qt of mac or potato salad for 6-7 bucks. Raw whole chickens go for $5-6 in the same store.

love those things for making cornbread dressing or just picking the meat off the bones and eating it straight 🙂 Lots of uses for freshly roasted chicken like that. Makes the cooks life MUCH easier

Costco rotisserie chicken = the yummy.

Yup we get these too. However, I miss having a rotisserie chicken restaurant around. I used to go to one when I lived in Toledo called YaYa's, but that location closed and I later moved. There's a good place near the DC branch of my work called Chicken Out that I get to once in a while. We have Boston Market but it's not quite the same.

Oh yeah, btw, the reason I thought to post this was KFC now pushing their new 'grilled' chicken.
Sorry, KFC. If you really wanted rotisserie deliciousness you should have bought a rotisserie.
And lowered your prices.

ummm yeah all chicken is dipped in a chlorine bleach solution before it is sent to the store...they redo this prior to rotisserie as it has been sitting on the shelf for so long. I was told about this from a meat section manager.

Ohkay maybe not brined and left in the solution for a good amount of time but they are at least rinsed in it prior to being cooked.
