Profits at the expense of brand identity and styling. CONGRATS!!!!!!

Increasing shareholder wealth is the only thing that matters. Cry me a river now cause you got owned.
Ok dumbass, the 5-series looks like garbage and its sales reflects that. No one here cares about owners of BMW stock.

Umm, actually, owners of over 658,664,977 shares do.

Look at whole pic, NFS4. not just a single model or two. Their overall sales is only down 2.8% which is too bad at all.

Total sales are only down by 2.8% b/c of two added models (6-Series and X3).

BMW sold 18559 vehicles in July of 2003 (no 6 or X3 at that point).
BMW sold 16682 vehicles in July of 2004 (excluding the 6 and X3).

So for vehicles that have been around longer than a year, sales are down over 15%

You cant really exclude 6 and x3 because they directly influence sales of other BMW models. Again your figures are biased.

So does that mean the original lineup sucks? 😀

umm, actually, my point still stands... NO ONE HERE CARES ABOUT OWNERS OF BMW STOCK. This is a forum filled with consumers (car buyers). People here care about quality, looks, and many other things when buying a car. Sorry, but I'm not going to buy a BMW because their stock is going up. This isn't a business/stock-trading forum. 5-series looks like crap and sales reflect that.

umm, actually, your point is going downhill. BMW doesn't care about this forum. All BMW cares about is increasing profits. Doesn't matter if you do or do not like the new 5-series.

You say my point is going downhill, yet you haven't proved me wrong when I say NO ONE HERE CARES ABOUT OWNERS OF BMW STOCK. I then told you what people here DO care about... and your argument is that BMW doesn't read this forum? Uhh, that's some sweet debating skills you have there. Anyway, I fully understand that it does not matter if I like or don't like the new 5-series. I never said it did matter. My point is that consumers who would normally consider buying a 5-series DON'T LIKE IT. That's why sales are down 50%. That's why BMW needs to change it so that consumers will buy it... so they make even more money! I don't know which high school or community college you took Business 101, but damn, it shows.

WTF does increasing shareholder wealth for the moment have to do with the long-term effect that Bangle's designs will have on the company??

The 7-Series is slipping, the 5-Series is slipping, the Z4 is tanking. About the only bright spot is the X3, but even that is eroding sales away from the larger X5.

ROFL. Go take a business class. Heck, you don't have to, anyone with a bit of common sense will know what I mean by increasing shareholders' wealth.

Just give it up. Everyone knows you hate German cars and love *sh!tty interior* Japanese cars.

If you still want to discuss the shareholders' wealth, I can recommend a few books. PM me.

OK i have taken a few business classes and have owned a few of my own business's.

1) increasing the botton line by sacrificing styling and quality for shareholders is great for the short term. but it really bad when sales are decreasing. YOU need to be able to regain the lost sales. right now BMW is NOT doing that.

You can only last so long before loss of sales means loss of business. So are they going to keep sacrificing style and quality to keep the shareholders happy? or bite the bullet and improve?

I'm confused on how you think loss of sales is a good thing. If you think that the loss of so many sales and increase of shareholders wealth is good then maybe YOU should take a business class.

Show me where I said "loss of sales is a good thing" and I'll shut up.

I'm over in Munich as I type this. Even here, the new MB E-class outnumbers the new 5 by at least 2:1 from my personal observations! Fugly, though the touring (wagon) version is slightly better. I've seen a few 6-series and one 1-series as it passed me. Not impressed with either.

What new cars are kick-ass?

Audi A6
MB SLK
MINI Cooper Cabrio

Edit: Drank a beer last night with two BMW employees at the Hofbauhaus. Even they agreed with me that Bangle styling and iDrive suck ass!

you didn't say it outright, but you definitely implied that sales don't matter when you said the *only* thing bmw cares about is shareholder value.

I dunno how you measure success, but i'm certain investors and the managers at BMW would get mighty nervous if BMW sales kept trending downwards.
