Just got back from the orthopedic doc all the ortho fellows recommended... He took my history etc & asked me to hold my arms out in front of me, thumbs up & proceeded to show me he could force my left arm down with 1 finger, over & over...

Turns out I prob tore the crap out of my left rotator cuff ~7 years ago (during a motorcycle wreck when I broke my arm) & have become so tolerant of the pain that I didn't realize how bad it was. I started lifting weights about 3 months ago & noticed I'd lost some function in my left arm & how weak it was. I went to see him & wanted the plate out of my arm & thought it was why everything hurt so bad.

MRI next week, and surgery in the near future. Oh well, it'll be nice to be able to close my pickup tailgate with my left arm & not feel like a wuss:(

yeesh...but at least you found out how everything stands...pushing your left arm down with 1 finger, eh? weird.

i've always wondered if i have a rotator cuff issue. i don't have the weak arm type symptoms you've described, but i have a slightly limited range of motion with my right shoulder...it is physically painful to throw a football far or to try to block someone when i'm defending them in bball.

went to the doctor, and he told me to not work out (lift weights) on my shoulder for 3 months..so i did that, and it's as bad as ever....i just kinda live with it now.

was gonna go see a therapist but never did

Wierdest thing is when I do dumbell flys, I can bring the weight to about 6 inches from my chest with the left arm & that's it. Can't move it a mm more.

A good sign of a messed up rotator is a normal pullup... if you start to feel pain in your shoulder you should definitely get it checked out (to people who think they might have a rotator injury but aren't sure)

That's pretty crazy to live with that kind of injury for seven years. Good luck on your surgery :) I bet it will be amazing to you once you're back to full strength with full range of motion in that arm.

I know of a great surgeon here in NYC if you want a second opinion. All he does is from the shoulder to the elbow. He did my shoulder surgery and is really good. Lemme know or should I just post his name ?
