Did you know that by the time you entered the area code you were already connected to the switch serving that area code??? What do you think those rotors did? Just make you wait a few seconds? Same with pulse dialing...each press of the button is setting up the call to the switch that will service your call. Just like the Internet.

c'mon....I want to talk communications!

Nope. I bet it would be pretty amazing. I can't even begin to imagine how big the rotory switches were in NYC. They must have needed a medium sized sky scraper just to hold them all.
