I just got my Compaq 1510T and DANGIT! no radeon 7500 rather the 340M.

Paid about $1,000 after rebates and sales tax.

15" sxga+
66 battery
30 gb hd
8x dvd
256 mb ddr (2 dimm)
1.6 mobile celery

its for my wife for Christmas. Mostly web surfing, light gaming, DVD viewing.

Compaq will take it back because I argued with them re: the 7500 vs. 340m switheroo.

Should I keep it? Is the 340m going to be ok with the higher resolution LCD.

We test ran the lappy and it seems nice. The LCD is beautiful but I'm concerned re: the GPU.

What should I do?

Not I.

I bought the laptop for it's portability (within the house, where it remains 95% of the time).

If WiFi didn't exist, I wouldn't own a laptop.

Wow, I've really been reading these forums too much. I thought the guy was writing "IDIOT" in 1337-speak.

You just needed to be able to browse the forums from the can, eh? ;)

I do, it's all i have. Although i don't much, so i don't really mind the lack of performance. As long as i can run UT(the old one) I'm happy

I tried that and it's not all that it's cracked up to be. It would work best with a smaller laptop which has a 12.1" LCD and weighs around 3-4 pounds instead of my hefty 15.0" weighing 7 pounds.

My wife & I tested it out a little. Just surfing and MS Excel work.

Seemed nice. Very nice display.

I'm just worried whether we/she is going to regret not having a Radeon 7500 (or 9000) 2 - 3 years from now.

You got a great deal on a highly rated laptop. If your wife is happy with it then I would say keep it. After all you do have a beautiful 15.0" SXGA display, longer life 66 WHr battery, I'm not sure but you should also have TWO USB 2.0 ports and ONE FireWire port (at least my 1500T does).

I would ultimately leave the decision up to your wife. She's not a hard core gamer, this very nice laptop should leave her happy for years to come.

If you aren't in a hurry I'm sure you could score a good deal (around $1200) on a new Dell Inspiron 4150 in a few weeks but probably not by Christmas.
