I recently bought a rosewill cd drive, and it jammed shortly after, got a replacement cd drive, exact same drive, and it has problems recognizing discs if they arent placed in the "perfect" position. I looked around and noticed that Rosewill made a variety of computer parts, and I was just wondering if you guys knew about em, and maybe had something to say about em? I only seem to have my negative story, so I don't recommend them for now.

Sure it's in-house? They have some high quality stuff coming out under that name...I have one of their PSUs, and the PSU and packaging were all of high quality.

Ribbon looks to be right. All of the links at froogle.com that didn't go to ebay was Newegg.com and CheifValue.com which both are pretty much the same store.

Well thats dumb, ChiefValue.com is 3 dollars and change cheaper than newegg.com for the exact same product.

based soley on the one item i got from them i would never buy anything of theirs i'd deem critical - no gpu's, psu's, etc. too many other options.

i did buy a wireless KB/mouse combo i'm sure you've all seen and it was cheaply made but about what i expected for the price. what i didn't expect was the flakiness of the RF and the way it tore thru batteries.

if they had a decent deal on a case or something i might consider them.

Who are these people behind newegg.com? They seemed to pop out of the middle of nowhere a few years ago and now almost completely dominate the pc parts buisness. Where did they come from and who's running the show?

All of you are corect, every product I search for from rosewill is only avalable from newegg.com

I can't say much, but I got a 256MB stick of Rosewill RAM (needed a very cheap, as in $30, memory upgrade) and it seems to be working fine. Every thing about Windows is faster then before and I haven't gotten any memory related errors. *Checks Everest* Hmm, they use Nanya chips. Not like I actually know who the good and bad memory chip manufacturers are...

I've had it for about two months or so now, and no problems.

Yes, Rosewill is Newegg's house packager - just like Mad Dog is to CraPusa... They package AOpen OEM drives for most of their opticals and mainly ATNG/Coolmax PSUs. I haven't tried to find out where their other packaged stuff comes from. I don't know why they bothered. But at least you should be able to get some tech support from Rosewill, while you'll be tilting at windmills trying to get TS from Newegg on what would otherwise be OEM stuff.
. Actually Newegg was spun out of ABS to bring down their parts costs (remember back in the day when Packard-Hell made the same move with Reveal) - which was apparently quite effective. I imagine you will find Rosewill boxes in some Mom & Pop computer shops... But the ploy was so transparent (I don't know whether I popped to it the first day I saw it or the second) that you're not likely to find them anywhere else. re. Rosewill in Fry's - retailers like retail packaging rather than selling OEM stuff wrapped in a couple layers of bubble wrap... So maybe Fry's bought themselves a piece of Newegg's action.?.

re. How do you know it's AOpen - well Rosewill hasn't had the drive labels changed. Look in the pics on newegg - you can see the labels... They do have their own label on the PSUs but you can look up the UL/RU file number to find who actually makes them.

I got 2 512 sticks of the ram. They are rated at Cas 3 but im running it at 2.5,3,2,5 @ overclocked to 214 mhz

Slightly off there - CompUSA's "house brand" is FMI. MadDog is just a rebrander, and they distribute through several retail stores, CompUSA and OfficeMax being two of them.

That being said, the "Rosewill"-branded components, are source from a variety of OEMs in a variety of industries, having ... yes, a variety of quality levels as well. There is really no such thing as "Rosewill quality", since "Rosewill" doesn't actually make anything at all. 😛 But some of their OEM'ed product lines, at least, seem halfway-decent, like their PSUs. Not sure about their RAM, and I'm disappointed to hear that their AOpen-made optical drives seem to be having issues.

AOpen (at least used to) make some pretty decent stuff - for example, AOpen cases and PSUs use/are FSP-based. Their opticals were often re-branded or customized OEM Teac or Ricoh drives. While AOpen may be a part of the "Acer Group", they seem to be somewhat independent, and actually custom-build/resell components made from mfgs other than Acer, surprisingly enough. Likewise, AOpen products' quality level is often a cut above Acer's.

I actually have both an ATI 9600 and 2 sticks of 512MB ram that are Rosewill and both of them have been rock solid so far. I am actually about to do some OC-ing so I will let you folks know how the Rosewill holds up.
