I have a box full of these type adapters that don't work, or only worked a short time. They're junk.

Try to find one which has a separate usb cable that plugs into it. The cable on these cheap adapters either don't work at the start or fails shortly. The only one I've seen with a decent cable is a anker.

Same goes for cheap external drive cases. Usually the cases come with flakey cables you'll need to replace.

Look around and you can find good cables for 2-3$, if you order from china. They are twice as thick, and stiffer, but work well. If you are in a hurry, you might find them in the us at higher prices.

Good rule of thumb on buying quality--if it's available in a retail store where angry customers could bring it back, then it's probably good quality. 😀
