News from Ralph@Home:

February 21, 2006
Windows test application version 4.86 released. This version includes a program database file to help with debugging. A new batch of test work units will be released soon.

We Ralphers (alpha testers) were just flooded with WUs based on the test app above.

I've been out of the "DC Business" since FaD shut down. I'm certainly not putting an Alpha test on any of my production machines, but I might just go ahead and install this on my home PCs to help with the testing and to get myself running DC projects again. :)

I realize that the Alpha project requires steady monitoring to watch for problems, but is there any way to hide the regular client on individual computers and monitor it from a central location? If so, I can contribute as many as 20-25 computers to the project (probably 3 of them on the Alpha test). If not, I can probably load it on 5 machines at most... :p

Ralph@Home needs more MacOS & Linux alpha testers specifically but no matter what OS you're running help is appreciated. :) Check out the home page for more info:

I'm new to Boinc so our more experienced users will have to help you with a network "stealth" install & monitoring. Looks like it may be possible though, check out this link to the manual:

Welcome back to DC Fardringle! :)

I downloaded and installed (and re-installed the official client as well as the truXoft optimized Windows client) and Rosetta@Home seems to be running happily but every work unit I've pulled from RALPH has errored the instant my computer starts trying to process them. I was dumb and didn't copy the exact error message before I restarted my computer and lost the message log but it was something to the effect of "unrecoverable error in <work unit name>". Now, every request for RALPH work units just gives an error that says "No work from project."

I'm letting my client run Rosetta for now so it doesn't get bored while it's waiting for Ralphie to come out and play, but I'm curious if anyone else had similar problems with the RALPH client, and if so how did you fix it?

The error from the first Ralph WU is an example that should be posted on the Ralph message board. Check out the message boards at Ralph for examples and ionstructions on how to deal with bugs that come up. The "No work from project" message is not an error and just means the server is not sending out work units. Typically the Ralph programmers go through a cycle of debugging the code, recompiling the app, and then send out WUs to the alpha testers. This morning they send out a few thousand WUs to test the most recent app. I just checked the server at Ralph and there are no more WUs going out to us. We may not get WU's for another day or two so you may want to crunch Rosetta on the same machine. Here's a link to the server that I find useful (the home page server stats are not accurate at all!):

Yeah, I figured the "no work" just meant the server didn't have anything for my client to do. I wish I had copied the failure error from the first few WU's but I don't have access to it now, and the client is actually working on the WU it has now so it might have been a fluke. I'll post the error on the RALPH forums if I see it again.

Looks like you were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Dr. Kim canceled a bad batch of WUs, like these : 1btn_fullatom_dec04_3_318_15_2.

Looking at your results, all of them that died on you contained the "fullatom".

Should be good to go for now.

And welcome to the TeAm.
