Volunteers needed!!

We are seeking volunteers for our new alpha test project, RALPH http://ralph.bakerlab.org/

There are a number of recent improvements to the rosetta application but we need volunteers to speed up the process of testing to make the updated application available for production as soon as possible.

If you are interested in helping to improve Rosetta@home and can spare a few extra cycles for testing, please join RALPH@home.

Any TeAm members already participating in this test?

Thanks for the heads-up Freewolf :)

Be sure to read up on what the devs. are needing from the alpha testers (RALPH)

You are the folks that will be testing new WUs prior to release to the wild. YOU are going to get all the ferked up ones and then be expected to report what happened.

I offer you  and a salute ( ) for being willing to help save us from those eager beavers!

Joined a couple of days ago and crunched a few WUs with no errors. The beta test went well, I guess, so they released the new app to the masses last evening? So far it's been painless ;)

Well... it would seem that not only are there the 1% problems still out there, but now they also seem to have a really high CPU threshold... I just aborted a 1% that had been running for 119 hrs ... here's 1000 points down the tubes...

Looks like they delayed the release of the new app to the masses for more "alpha testing". Also saw a post in the alpha test forum this morning of a 1% error. Doesn't look like the new app is ready for prime time yet.

"February 17, 2006
Today we backed up our database and upgraded our production database server which now uses mysql-max and has improved I/O performance by using a SCSI controller serving a RAID10 of 14 drives. We will be delaying the release of the updated rosetta application due to some remaining issues with the cpu run time preference that are apparent on our RALPH test project. A fix will be made and tested immediately. You should still be able to set the new project specific preferences but they will not take effect until the application gets updated."

I am getting " no work from project"
again.

It contacts server ok but then I get the message.

Anyone else getting this message?

I am also posting this on the Ralph@home message board.

Yes, me too, but I'm assuming this is typical of a cycle of debugging, recompiling and then sending out WUs to test the code. I've had one WU today & 4 total since the 16th.

Wow

You'd think RALPH would have permanently solved all the WU problems by now...

they've been at it for what...... a day?

:p

Dunno what RALPH is trying to solve... I thought the 1% problems predated RALPH... so I was posting that for the sake of letting people know that there are still 1% problems out there... thanks though for your thoughtful insight...

Another one... only 33 hours lost this time... check your herds guys...

Why do you keep posting those here ?

[thoughtful insight]

This is not the I forgot to check my computers thread.
There is a thread dedicated to that at the Rosetta forums.

[/thoughtful insight]

Now, back to the topic of this thread.

Keep us posted on your experiences RALPH folks. We're cheering you on from the stands.

Dunno what RALPH is trying to solve... I thought the 1% problems predated RALPH...

RALPH is trying to solve the 1% bug, along with other things.

V4.82 may solve the problem.

Out of curiosity what are your settings for:
Switch between applications every: xxx
and
Leave applications in memory while preempted: yes/no.

Hi Robert... Leave applications in memory while preempted is Yes and switch between applications every 60 minutes. LMK if I've got something not quite right there and thanks for the help! Below are all my settings...

No action for me so far; 4 WUs in 3 days..no bugs to report.

I am ranked 3rd within the TeAm using only 1 hr CPU time per 24 hr

Of course there's only 6 of us :D

Seriously, the real action is at the Ralph message board:
http://ralph.bakerlab.org/forum_forum.php?id=1

There are 3 types of "trapped at 1%" bugs they are trying to deal with at this time. Check out the "Discussion of the "1% hang" issue" for a description of the 3 types and some key program settings to minimize one of them.

Hi Robert... Leave applications in memory while preempted is Yes and switch between applications every 60 minutes. LMK if I've got something not quite right there and thanks for the help!

The only thing I would change would be to bump up the swap time to 90, 120 or 180 minutes.

I had both of my systems set for 180 minutes and never had a WU get stuck. Could be just dumb luck.

You can check out the thread that biodoc posted, or check out this one. They go into a little more depth about the 1% bug and what they know/think causes them.
