  • As some of you might have noticed, there's a new client version - 4.81 - available and should download to your cruncher automaticaly. As of now, there's no official word about what the changes are, but some users have reported WUs erroring out with the new client after some 30 or 40 secs. If you happen to have this problem, don't worry. You 'll only lose 40 secs worth of your crunching time. More to be read here. But, there's one official warning:

Found a service install machine hung today. Rebooted it and rosetta started processing again. Not sure if that was due to a wu, I'll take a peek tomorrow.

Us? We're just a bunch of pluggers and we just keep plugging alone as best we can trying to keep up with the big boys like Enterprise. More to come I don't know. I have all of mine moved over now. There maybe a few friends or family alone the way who knows.
One things for sure we will keep doing the best we can with what we have and be happy with that.

I had a very unusual problem come up right as I was about to go to sleep last night. It doesn't seem to be the same one discussed in this thread but I thought it best if I mentioned it.

I decided to check on my wife's computer who has been gone for almost a month with my granddaughter getting her chemo and rad treatments in Dallas. It had been about a week since the last time I looked in on it.

Well, last night I was startled to see a warning message on the screen that said the computer was very low on disk storage and I needed to provide additional resources. I quickly opened "My Computer / C: local disk", and sure enough the FREE SPACE was reported to be ZERO!

Upon further investigation I found the culprit. The file "C:\Program Files\BOINC\slots\0\stderr.txt" was over 22 GB! :Q

Upon further reflection this morning I'm sorry to report my first thoughts were to get rid of the file and get the computer rebooted. I should have attempted to open the file to see what error was being reported. I should have made a notation of the exact Rosetta Application Name. But I didn't. 🙁

So I'm reporting this with two thoughts in mind. 1st to just let you all know that such a problem did occur and 2nd to be more thoughtful than me, if and when you ever get the same error, and make a few notes of the event so as to be helpful to the project managers. 😱

That file on my setup is the one showing the 'random seed' for the work unit in progress. I have seen work units turned in where it has that line over and over again. I suspect you had a bad work unit and it filled that thing up.. but 22GB.... :shocked:

I bet it was one of the series 205 units... I remember reading that it would make HUGE files if allowed to run to it's end.

Oh yeah Almost forgot just ordered an Athlon64x3 3800 to replacing a MB/CPU combo that is bleedign to death. Should have it tomorrow or Friday. 🙂
