I'm not sure what JIT is???

Also, uninstalling taskkiller pro helped a lot.

JIT = "Just In Time".

Basically it's a compiler that recompiles bytecode at runtime (hence the "just in time" moniker) to a more native binary form that should theoretically run faster as it's optimized for the processor it's compiled for. Most Java VM's, including Dalvik (Android's VM) as well as several other interpreted languages (including .NET) have moved to JIT in order to optimize speed while still retaining the benefits of interpreted languages (general binary compatibility across different hardware platforms).

Also, I'm using Advanced Task Killer Free, does what I want it to.

i did wipe. it's running ok. at times fastest rom 3.0 is quicker imo but i'm going to give it a shot. go to settings/SD storage and scroll down to see internal memory.

Rudeguy, you flashed Test3 yet? I read in the master thread that Cyanogen says not to use swap on test3 and on the cyanogen forums that JIT isn't needed on test3 either. Test3 is awesomely fast compared to t1 and t2, imo.

Yep. I'm running test3 and have no problems. I didn't install setcpu or userconf just to see how it works out of the box. Almost no lag and zero complaints so far.

I still can't get Google Voice to be my voicemail carrier but that may be because I'm on a flexpay plan.

I wish I could say I wasn't having problems, but I just had a recurrance of an incident that happened on Test2 - my phone was completely locked up with the screen off while charging. ADB wouldn't recognize it and the orange charging light stayed on even after unplugging it. I didn't have the issue on t1, but I've seen it once on T2 and so far now once on T3.

OK...there are some major fixes out for test3. My phone is running great and I'm seeing MUCH faster 3G speeds. Its worth checking out the thread over there.

I've always thought about rooting my g1 but at the same time didn't want to bother with the excess work involved.

Wasn't there some quote you had about the consequences of rooting, SunnyD? Forgot where it was but I need to read it again.

I am still teethering between doing it or not. Seems fun but also seems there's excess work and hassle involved.

Not I. But it should be obvious that rooting and/or jailbreaking (for iPhones) opens up OBVIOUS security loopholes. Rooting in particular, since allowing su access to a device basically means a malicious app can access anything it wants on your phone. My suggestion - if you do anything "sensitive" on your phone and are worried, don't root it (ie: online banking, etc). If you're like me and don't care, it's not a big deal.

This is pretty much my only concern - security. I'm always a little concerned about stability (the phone crashing when I need it) and battery life being worse - but the real worry that I have with jailbreaking an iPhone is that you are giving someone else's code full root access to your device and you aren't getting the source code to see what the code is doing. Since I actually do online banking and online stock trades on my phone it leaves me unsure of how trustworthy my phone is... or is it recording my bank website user name and password and sending them off to some hacker in Estonia.

On the other hand there are some good jailbroken apps out there... so I'd love to know that it's safe so I could jailbreak without worrying.

Blargh. The closest thing I have got to personal confidential info are gmail, pocket ebay.

These are pretty solid non-rooted apps, but will other apps have the ability to access the info from these?

Anything is possible on a rooted device. Anything.

Don't worry. You can be 99.9% certain your personal and/or confidential information is already in the hands of some hacker in Estonia. And you don't even need to thank your phone for that! Thanks to the modern miracle of the internet, pretty much any data you desire to transmit, whether encrypted or not, can be considered potentially compromised be if from your phone, PC or any other "connected" device. Hell, your copying machine might even be the culprit. :)

I've learned to make nifty boats out of my tin foil. No sense in worrying, simply be vigilant and respond to issues that occur. That's all you can do. Hell, anti-virus and anti-malware companies make billions off their philosophy.

Yep, that's the truth. My moms laptop got infected with AntiVirus Vista a week or so ago and I made her change all her passwords after I disinfected the PC.

How about this.. Do you guys feel rooting has tweaked mobile browsing to be speedier?

I don't like the load times on the g1 for non-mobile formatted pages. Like here for example. Mobi site is fine, but lacks too many features.
