I keep thinking about this but are Custom roms safe to used?

I mean could they potentially harbor exploits that can steal personal data?

Pick a popular, well thought of ROM and you'll be OK. Enough people will have checked it out then, in fact it'll probably be more secure than a lot of stock ROMs.

Also find out how to return to stock before you start!

ROM: Cyanogenmod 7.2
Kernal: Joker 1.3 OC

On a side note, a very good ICS build is out for my phone, complete in about every way except camera. once that's integrated, I'll be running 4.0.3.

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S Captivate (Rogers - SGH-I896)
ROM: Cyanogenmod 7.2.0-RC1 - Euroskank CM7 Kang
Kernel: Whatever comes with Cyanogenmod, lol.
Android Version: 2.3.7

Man, is this ROM ever nicer than the stock 2.3.3 Rogers/Samsung one. The only thing I really miss is a couple features on the Samsung dialer and contact list, but I haven't spent a lot of effort trying to replace them yet.
