So, I rooted my friend's Droid tonight in about five minutes (I'm so amazing :awe:). We downloaded Android Tether (which we couldn't get working, but it said something about updating the kernel and I didn't do that I guess?) and SNESoid (which worked). What other rooted apps are essential to have? Free is probably the key word I should add here, although if they are really worth it apps, a few bucks probably wouldn't hurt (SNESoid was $4).

He also wants to know some good free games (I checked but didn't find many) that are available (rooted or not).

I also really want a Droid now and don't know if I want the Nexus One. I love the feel in my hand (feels really solid and heavy). My Voyager is like a bag phone in comparison :(.

I think he tried the Wireless Tether, but it wouldn't work right (I only messed with Android Tether).

About myself on the Droid, it's like $20 on Amazon for new plans (I don't know if that covers upgrades), but the thing is our plan isn't up until January, and I don't know if any new phones worth having will be coming out. Not interested in the iPhone (well I am but..) and I like the blockiness and solidness of the Droid...I also don't know if we'll have to get another data plan (already have the unlimited family or w/e).

the only game I really play is robo defense. Its a simple game that is stupidly addicting. I got rid of the snes emulator because most of the games weren't as responsive as I would like.

I'll shoot him over some of these.

Also, since I made the thread...since we have a family plan with unlimited data/texts and all that, if I and/or the two others on our plan were going to get the phone, is there going to be extra charges?

The Data is per phone - $30. Adding phones also cost $9.99 each per month.

So it'd be $90 + a regular minute plan? That's bullshit if so...

$199.95 monthly for three people with the lowest minute/text plan and all unlimited data...wow. Ridiculous.

Yeah, pretty much. But it's what you're going to pay if you want to be on Verizon. Still, a lower price than 3 individual plans with data.

Sprint has some pretty good deals though...

We came from Sprint because we found their service to be shoddy. (This was before last January). Didn't use 3G and such, or their new 4G I guess, but still, didn't give as much coverage as Verizon.

It sucks paying that much, but, holy crap, there is no way I can go back. My only hope is that something causes the rates to go down.

Speaking of rooted droid stuff: ESE81 based ROM, downloading and giving it a try.

So the cheaper service didn't work for you, but you aren't willing to pay for the better service?

$66 bucks each for unlimited data, text and as many minutes as you need with the coverage you want? Doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. I pay right about $130/month for my two phones with very similar plans. Its not cheap but I damn sure get my money's worth every month.

Thanks for that, I'll make sure he sees that. Almost...a new interface or so? I'll let him look more in-depth into it anyways, as it is his phone. :p

I never said anything about not willing to pay for it, I said it's a lot.

Spring would be $150 (I think) a month for three people, but the only phone I'd want is the HTC Touch 2 or whatever it is, and I've never used that. I also don't know if that is their new 4G or whatever, and I don't know if that has more coverage or what.

Sprint and Verizon have roaming agreements with one another - so if you're on Sprint, you can force roaming to use Verizon's towers without penalty (as long as you don't use the majority of your minutes/data each month roaming).

That being said...Sprint's family plans are much cheaper than anyone else's, especially if you either use the EPRP referral plans or a corporate discount.

I'll be paying under $140/month (excluding taxes/fees) for 5 lines with 1500 shared minutes, unlimited calls to any mobile number, AND DATA. Also get handset upgrades every year, not every two years.

I don't work for Sprint and I don't get anything for referring people - I just like saving money and assume others do as well...

FWIW...

Really now? I configured a plan with unlimited data and 3 lines (I think) last night for $150 a month. The main reason Sprint wouldn't work was either out in the country or when I was up in NH, it wouldn't work at all. There was a Verizon tower at the top of the hill where I was (maybe a mile), and I could get no Sprint service at all.

Does Sprint have more phones coming to it though either?

Also, the thing I like about the Droid so much is just the scanning of apps...that's damn cool to me.
