Barq's is by far the best of the widely-available brands IMO (Henry Weinhard's is the best I've ever tried, but that's not available in many places).

One thing to consider though is that Barq's has caffeine in it, which may not be desireable for some people.

Of the two brands you list, I would go with Barq's, but that's just my own preference.

I am a Coke devotee, and between those choices, prefer A&W for the overall flavor. however, neither have anything on IBC. mmm I enjoy the 40's of IBC for $1. 🙂
IBC, like Thomas Kemper, is far overrated. Though at least IBC is drinkable. Thomas Kemper is complete and utter crap, it tastes like moldy cardboard, and I cannot figure out why so many people seem to enjoy it. Weinhard's pwns all root beers.

hmm all this talk of root beer made me want one.

had to crack open a sioux city sarsaparilla yumm..

At one time I loved A&W, then I started drinking Barqs. One day I decided to have an A&W and it just tasted nasty, so now I drink Barqs.

What do you mean Barqs has bite?

A&W >>>>> Mug >>>>> Barqs. I only choose Barqs if it's the only option.
