Roommates and Bills

My husband and I have a roommate that we split bills with. My question is: Should my husband and I be counted as one entity in the bills? Or should the bills be divided by 3 people? Or should we do both? ie bills based on useage be split 3 ways and other bills be split in half?

i cant think of any bill where you could argue you and your husband should be considered one entity. split them 3 ways.

Rent should be 50/50 if you both occupy the same bedroom space

Water, Electric, cable etc... should be split in 3

3 ways is ftw, especially when it comes to things like electricity, heat, or hot water, when having a third person in the environment increases the monthly cost of those utilities (you could make more of a 50/50 case for splitting something like cable).

What about cable and internet? That never changes no matter how many ppl use it.

But two people on your side use it vs one of him.

3 ways.

Doesn't matter if two of you are bonded in holy matrimony. Three actual people are making use of the resources that are being payed for. They should bear the load equally.

I hope you are not that dumb to believe that you are one 'entity'. Do you only eat enough food for one person? Do you only use the washroom as if one person? You use the can at the same time?

Seriously... what a dumb question.

ugh i hate people like you

i had a roommate who wanted credit for utilities when he wasn't at the apartment (i.e. went back home, vacation)

and he left mid-month.

how could you even ask if you and your husband should be considered as "one entity"? it's so clearly fair and such common sense that you split it 3 ways.

Divide up the apartment by common space and bedroom space.

(2*Common Space/3)+(Bedroom Space/2) = you and your wife's share of the rent
2*Utilities/3 = you and your wife's share of the utilities
