Roommate: Who gets the bigger room?

This happened to me and two of my roommates for our three bedroom apartment. There was one slightly larger bedroom (around 5-10 sq feet bigger) with it's own very small bathroom. The other two were about the same to each other (one did have a balcony though) with a larger shared bathroom. Instead of having one guy charge more, we just randomly drew the order that we would select bedrooms in.

It ended up working out. The roommate who choose first got his own bathroom but he was quite messy. Me and the other guy shared a bathroom but we're cleaner people so for guys in college, we kept it quite nice. It would have been nice to have the larger bedroom, but it wasn't that much better and the odds were the same for everyone.

Completely forgot the original topic...

He who pays more gets bigger room. Everyone knows this.
Um, maybe and that's the first thing I thought before I read the details. In my house, it was first here gets the choice. If someone moved out of a room, others in the house had the chance to claim that room before someone else moved in. But everyone paid the same, anyway.

In this situation, it's different. It's complex, the OP has a case for taking the larger room since he has a bigger bed, more stuff, does most of the things around the house. Maybe he should just ask his friend if it's OK if he has the larger room. If money's not a big deal, he can offer to pay more than his friend. This stuff isn't easy.
