Roommate Wears Shoes in the House

About 3 weeks ago my other roommate and I did a number on the apartment. We threw out old things, organized, put in ikea shelves and finally completely cleaned the apartment. I've decided since I would vacuum and mop the floor ounce a week. The other roommate came back a few days ago from summer break. I asked her since the apartment is so clean now if she could please remove her shoes and leave it outside or carry it into her room. She tells me "I don't know about that" and has been wearing her shoes in side. She takes her shoes off in the room. I don't completely understand why she won't. I can understand if you have stinky feet but I know she doesn't. I have a big tolerance in terms of sanitary conditions and don't let things bother me for long but if it comes down to it I just won't clean the floors anymore and will buy some indoor slippers. The point of this post is to found out why people would be against a no-shoe policy inside a clean house. BTW my roommate is completely for the new policy but has decided to not take sides.

Is she black? (Only asking since the quote sounded like she's black)

And the whole taking shoes off is an Asian thing. Most non Asians aren't accustomed to removing footwear in the house.

I take my shoes off right at the door and put them on a shoe rack thing. Walking around w your shoes on is basically tracking around all the dirt and crap that is outside.

I don't mean to protest by saying I won't clean the floor. We used to not clean the floor until we saw visible dirt, so maybe once a season. I just spoke to her about this and didn't realize how busy she is. She said she can't promise she'll remember to take her shoes off going into the house but that she'll try. That's all I can ask of a person. Thinking about it some more I guess either way I'd still clean the floor once a week and if they get extra dirty then I'll have some slippers to wear. It was a good day to practice compassion.

Some of us go outdoors other than for work.

I come home. After feeding him, I'm back outside walking my dog 10 minutes later. After that, I might go back out to take the trash out and check the mail (the mail-person comes too late otherwise I'd just pick it up when I walk the dog). After that I might drive to the grocery store.

I take my shoes off if I am home to stay, but it makes no sense to automatically take them off the moment you get in the door if you are going to be going back out in a few minutes.

Yep.

My shoes come off when I get ready for bed. I take them off when I come in if its raining out and in the winter I take my boots off and trade them for house shoes. I'm a city guy so my shoes don't get dirty otherwise.

People who take their shoes off and leave them are the ones that have Black Widows crawl in them, bite you and make you die.

yeah we have a shoe rack near the door. i take my shoes off and put on either sandles or slippers. I can't go barefoot or they start to hurt.

only time i could go barefoot was the short time i lived in a apartment. it had some god aweful 70's carpet. nearly every house i have owned has hardwood floors.

I take mine off in the house, but I wouldn't expect other people to in a shared apartment.

I have a pair of rubber sandles by the back door that I put on if I am going out to grill or something. I have more pairs of shoes I can easily slip on by the garage door. Pretty easy to remove your shoes in order to keep the house clean for longer.

I can't ask my dog to take off her shoes in the house. No point in me doing it.

I call BS on that. Please educate yourself better. You are so full of wrong, it's not even funny. You've never been anywhere in Europe, for instance, I take it...
